Taking a screenshot

Modified on: 2018-02-19 08:32:29 +0200

This article contains step-by-step instructions on how to take a screenshot on Microsoft Windows and MacOS.

On Windows:

Option 1:

  1. Click the “Print Screen” button (called “PrntScn”) on your keyboard. At this stage, it will look like nothing has happened.
  2. Go to the point in the assignment document where is says “Paste your screenshot here” and either use the shortcut (Ctrl-V) to paste the image (just like you would cut and paste a line of copy), or right-click with your mouse and choose the “Paste” option.
  3. The image should be pasted now, but it may be outside the margins or have displaced other text. Look at your editing bar (on the Top) and choose the “Picture Edit” option. Crop the image to size (take out all the unnecessary things along the top and bottom of the image). Make sure that it is big enough so the text can be read clearly, so you can increase the size of the image.
  4. Remember to make your assignment look as neat and readable as possible.

On Mac:

  1. Press Command + Shift + 4. A cursor will appear that will allow you to draw a box around the exact part of the screen that you want to take a screenshot of. Hold down the left mouse button, draw the box and release the button.
  2. The screenshot will be saved to your desktop. From here you can drag it straight into the correct spot in the Word document. Alternatively, you could click on Insert > Picture > From File… and then select the correct image from the finder.
  3. You can edit the image by double clicking on it and adjusting the options.
  4. Remember to make your assignment look as neat and readable as possible.
